Welcome to the Delirium Care Network
The Delirium Care Network strives to foster awareness for delirium detection, prevention and treatment by keeping you up to date on the latest research developments and by providing you with valuable resources. We also aim to address patient concerns as well as provide care givers with the information necessary to support their loved ones. Sharing ideas, resources and experiences will advance our understanding of this condition and most importantly our ability to prevent and treat delirium.
What is Delirium?
Delirium is the sudden onset of inattention, disorientation and confusion that may last anywhere from hours, days to weeks. It is a serious complication that can lead to greater risk of physical injury, additional health problems, long term impairments in thinking and memory, as well as loss of independence. Delirium is typically attributed to a combination of factors such as over-medication, infection, dehydration, sleep disruption, or being in unfamiliar surroundings. Those more vulnerable to experience delirium include children, the elderly, and those frail or sick. |
